Still in the Woods
Caregiver Retreat
Critically ill children survivors and their caregivers often feel isolated and misunderstood. This retreat offers a break from daily stress in a beautiful mountain setting in western North Carolina. Participants will have the opportunity to join an encouraging and positive community. During the Still in the Woods retreat, you can share your story, life experiences, and meet others who understand what it means to support a loved one living with, through, and beyond their illness. This is a safe, supportive environment where caregivers can interact and learn from one another.
This free retreat is for mom caregivers (ages 21+) of a critically ill child. At this retreat, we will bring together mothers of children with chronic illnesses to recharge their minds and bodies. Moms will have the opportunity to get a massage, take a hike in the beautiful local mountain trails, and participate in a yoga class.
Coming together, we will foster a community of moms who are medical caregivers for their child and work through emotions in ways only other moms may understand. Consider this a time to connect with others who get where you're coming from as a caregiver.
Still in the Woods offers a blend of discussion groups, recreational activities, and self care.
This pilot program for Still in the Woods will be held May 14-17, 2026. Moms will arrive by 4 pm Thursday evening and depart by noon on Sunday. There is no cost for the retreat. All lodging, food and activities are provided. Moms are responsible for their travel.
Still in the Woods are peer supported and do not provide therapeutic psychological care. Our retreats do not replace the care of psychologists or other health care professionals.
