Kayla
Kayla Tucker was born and raised near Atlanta, Georgia. Her family decided to leave the city for a much slower pace of life as she was entering into high school. Once she saw the mountains, she knew she could never leave! In 2014, at the age of 17, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and underwent treatment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. During her time spent in the hospital, surrounded by so many superheroes, she realized that it was her calling in life to serve those children and their families who are fighting big battles. Her inspiration came from her Child Life Specialist, Lauren, who helped her navigate through her teenage cancer journey. Kayla then attended Young Harris College and received a B.S. in Psychology with an emphasis in Child Life in 2019. During her time at Young Harris, she was introduced to Dr. Dawn and The Still Place. Kayla came as a volunteer for a No Parent Party, and her heart was immediately captured. She has since decided to stay local and serve our amazing Still Place families! If you ask her what she does, she’ll tell you she works with superheroes, and definitely has the best job in the world. Kayla also works at night as a high school mentor for at risk youth. During her free time, she loves to be outdoors, travel, cheer on the Georgia Bulldogs, and most importantly spend time with her family, friends, and her dog.
